Valley View becomes the second Lackawanna Track Conference boys team to take over a No. 1 spot in the Riverfront Sports Super Six Track and Field Power Rankings of District 2 teams in as many weeks.
The Cougars became the new No. 1 Big School boys team when the rankings were posted Monday morning, going into the final week of the regular season.
Mid Valley took over No. 1 in Small School boys last week and held on to it along with Dallas in Big School girls and Lake-Lehman in Small School girls this week.
Crestwood shot all the way to second from out of the rankings last week when the Big School boys rankings were overhauled following losses by two of last week’s top three teams.
The Hazleton Area, Wallenpaupack and Mid Valley girls all moved up this week while the Delaware Valley boys also entered the rankings.
The rankings consider a combination of each team’s strength both in dual meet and large invitational/championship meets.
Valley View handled Scranton, 102-48, for sole possession of the LTC Division 1 lead, clinching at least a tie for first place in the process.
Crestwood handed Hazleton Area its first loss, 87-63, creating a four-way tie for first in WVC Division 1.
Hazleton Area slipped from second to third with the loss.
North Pocono dropped from first to fourth following a 76-74 loss in non-league competition against Abington Heights.
WVC Division 2 leader Wyoming Area held fifth while Delaware Valley took over sixth.
Wyoming Area has clinched at least a first-place tie.
Delaware Valley is tied with North Pocono for the LTC Division 2 lead going into their meet to decide the title.
Scranton and Berwick dropped out of the rankings.
The Small School boys remained the same with unbeaten LTC Division 3 leader Mid Valley followed by Holy Redeemer, Lakeland, Dunmore, Montrose and Susquehanna.
Mid Valley and Montrose clinched at least ties for first place in LTC Divisions 3 and 4. Montrose did so by winning a first-place battle with Susquehanna.
Dallas and Abington Heights, the unbeaten leaders of Division 1 of the WVC and LTC, remained first and second in Big School girls.
LTC Division 2 leader Wallenpaupack and Crestwood moved up one spot each into third and fourth.
Hazleton Area suffered its first loss against Crestwood and fell two places to fifth.
WVC Division 2 leader Wyoming Area remained in sixth.
The top four in Small School girls held steady with Lake-Lehman followed by Lakeland, Montrose and Blue Ridge.
Lakeland clinched at least a first-place tie in LTC Division 3.
Lake-Lehman is getting ready to face Wyoming Area for the WVC Division 2 title while Montrose and Blue Ridge will decide LTC Division 4.
Mid Valley traded places with Dunmore, moving from sixth to fifth.
