District 2 will crown its first spring sports champions since 2019 in the afternoon, a prestigious track invitational makes its return and regular-season play proceeds toward its conclusion Thursday.
The team tennis tournament is down to four Class 3A and four Class 2A teams, which will go through semifinal and final rounds at Kirby Park to decide the two champions.
Unlike other recent seasons, Class 3A is District 2 only with District 4 member Williamsport placed in a different subregional.
The Class 3A semifinals will get started at 11:30 a.m. with top-seeded Abington Heights (13-1) taking on fourth-seeded Delaware Valley (7-6) and Crestwood (9-1) facing North Pocono (6-8).
Class 2A is next with 1 p.m. semifinals that have the potential to create a championship match between unbeaten league champions.
Scranton Prep (14-0) will first need to get past Wyoming Seminary (7-2) while Dallas (10-0) tries to take care of Dunmore (12-2).
The finals starting times are uncertain, with Class 3A starting after the Class 2A semifinals end, then Class 2A beginning after a 45-minute break.
The 65th annual Jordan Relays will put the bulk of the Lackawanna Track Conference and host Pittston Area through the three traditional relays and three other events. The meet starts at 5:30.
Class 3A and 2A champions will be determined in boys and girls.
The top regular-season event is also at Pittston Area with Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 softball leader Tunkhannock (8-0 in WVC, 11-1 overall) playing at the second-place Lady Patriots (4-1, 4-2).
West Scranton is scheduled to play its first baseball game in 17 days when the Invaders (2-1) host Valley View (4-2, 7-5) in Lackawanna League Division 1.
Wyoming Area knocked off one of the two WVC Division 2 baseball leaders earlier in the week. Now, the Warriors (4-4, 5-4) have a shot at the remaining leader when they host Lake-Lehman (8-1, 10-1).
Lake-Lehman (9-1, 12-1) also has an important game in girls lacrosse, hosting Scranton Prep (4-3, 7-4) in the WVC.
