Caporuscio hits century mark
Crestwood sophomore Isabella Caporuscio scored her 100th goal of the season with 1:19 left in regulation Friday to lift Crestwood into a 7-7, non-league girls lacrosse tie with Danville.
The teams did not score in one sudden-death overtime period, resulting in the tie.
Julia Glowacki, who had an assist, and Caporuscio scored three goals each.
Riley Hudock scored nine goals when Hazleton Area routed Pittston Area, 19-5, in a WVC game.
Emily Rinaldi had three goals for Pittston Area.
BASEBALL
Tyler Peet singled in Dustin Ferraro with the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning as third-place Western Wayne edged second-place Lakeland, 3-2, in a Lackawanna League Division 3 game.
The Wildcats improved to 7-2 in the division, a half-game behind the Chiefs (8-2).
Peet, Ferraro and Luke Janiszewski each had two hits to back the three-hitter by Zane Janiszewski.
Division leader Riverside improved to 10-0 in the division and 13-0 overall by holding Mid Valley to two hits in a 5-0 shutout victory.
Eli Peifer and Wyatt Peifer combined on a five-hitter to lead Wallenpaupack past Delaware Valley, 5-1, in a Lackawanna League Division 2 game.
Wyatt Piefer doubled, singled and scored twice. Jordan Santiago drove in two runs.
Devon Markert and Jeremy Cawley drove in three runs each to lead Pittston Area past Wilkes-Barre Area, 11-6, in a WVC Division 1 game.
Markert had a double and single. Cawley had a triple.
Matt Johnson doubled and scored two runs.
The Patriots scored six times in the bottom of the fourth inning to take an 8-0 lead. They carried an 11-2 lead into the final innings.
Aidan Mehal got the win by limiting the Wolfpack to two runs on three hits in five innings.
Justin Spencer drove in five runs as Nanticoke outlasted Holy Redeemer, 8-5, in nine innings in a WVC Division 2 game played at PNC Field in Moosic.
Holy Redeemer scored five times in the bottom of the seventh to erase a 5-0 deficit and force extra innings.
The loss by the second-place Royals allowed Lake-Lehman to clinch at least a tie for first place in the division.
SOFTBALL
Second-place Pittston Area crept closer to the WVC Division 1 lead by holding on for a 10-9 victory at Hazleton Area, a team that entered the day in a third-place tie.
The Lady Patriots scored seven times in the top of the first, let the lead get away, then recovered for the victory.
Tori Para and Sage Weidlich each had a double, single and RBI. Para scored three runs and Weidlich two.
Skylar Borthwick singled, doubled and drove in two runs. Kallie Booth also had two hits.
Gianna Adams gave up just one hit and one run in 5 2/3 innings of relief. She walked four and struck out three.
Kelsie Peters had a home run, single and three RBI to lead Hazleton Area, which scored six runs in the bottom of the first and two in the second. Olivia, who had two hits, joined Peters and Julia Mrochko in scoring two runs each.
Mrochko also homered.
Winning pitcher Kasidy Slusser had a home run and double to lead Hanover Area past Nanticoke, 7-2, in a WVC Division 2 game.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Blue Ridge rallied from a set behind twice to defeat North Pocono, 19-25, 25-22, 16-25, 25-20, 15-9, and improve to 8-1 in the Lackawanna League.
Freshman Connor Cranage had 25 kills and four blocks to lead the Raiders.
Calvin Scheideler had 14 kills and 29 digs while Carson Gallagher had 37 assists and 10 service points.
Matt Henneforth had 18 kills while Caleb Hoch had 27 assists in Western Wayne’s 25-23, 25-13, 16-25, 25-20 victory over Forest City.
Jeremiah Pauler added 18 service points and 12 digs.
