Hazleton Area will try to extend its perfect record while Wilkes-Barre Area will be looking to win a championship in its debut season when the two Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 rivals meet Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. in the District 2-4 Class 6A baseball championship game.
The final will be played at Hazleton Area because of its status as top seed. The WVC Division 1 champion Cougars are 21-0 after handling Williamsport, 10-0, in five innings Thursday.
Wilkes-Barre Area got past Delaware Valley, 11-8.
Nick Biasi struck out nine and did not walk a batter in his one-hitter for Hazleton Area, which got big offensive games from Jatn Diaz and Luke Russo.
Diaz had two hits, including a homer, and drove in three runs. Russo went 3-for-4 and drove in two.
Wilkes-Barre Area used a six-run bottom of the third to break a 2-2 tie with Delaware Valley.
Winning pitch Ryan Nowakowski went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI. He allowed just three earned runs in his six innings.
Sawyer Koretz also drove in three runs while Joe Monahan had three hits and two RBI for the Wolfpack.
Christian Galimi had three hits, including a double, to lead Delaware Valley.
