The Wyoming Valley Conference’s top two teams from a year ago are in the top two spots in the first Golden Dome Abstract Super Six Field Hockey Power Rankings of District 2 teams.
The rankings were released Friday, Opening Day of the field hockey season.
Three-time defending Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class A state champion Wyoming Seminary, coming off an unbeaten season, leads the rankings.
Wyoming Area, which lost only a pair of 1-0, overtime decisions to the state champions, is ranked second.
Wyoming Valley West opens in third place, followed by Lake-Lehman, Crestwood and Lackawanna Trail.
Wyoming Seminary went 16-0 last season, including 10-0 in the WVC Division 1, then three playoff games each in the District 2 and PIAA Class A tournaments. The Blue Knights shut out their three state opponents by a cumulative, 13-0 score.
Wyoming Area was likely the top Class A team in the state other than the Blue Knights, but a condensed PIAA Tournament for COVID-19 reasons kept the Lady Warriors from making another deep postseason run after they lost the District 2 final to Wyoming Seminary.
Wyoming Valley West placed fourth out of 12 teams in Division 1 of the WVC and reached the District 2 Class 2A championship game where its season ended.
Lake-Lehman, the only team to score against Wyoming Seminary in six postseason games, was knocked out by the Blue Knights in the District 2 Class A semifinals.
Crestwood won the District 2 Class 2A title, but could not participate in the state tournament because of COVID-19.
Lackawanna Trail had the WVC’s third-best winning percentage at 6-2 before being upset in the District 2 Class A quarterfinals.
