Nick Hockenbury was first, followed by three Lake-Lehman teammates as the Black Knights opened defense of its Wyoming Valley Conference boys cross country title with two victories at home Wednesday at Letterkenny Fields.
Hockenbury covered three miles in 16:37 to win by 1:41.
Casey Weaver, Michael Serafin and Will McCarroll were second through fourth.
Brendon Yatsko from Tunkhannock was fifth as the only non-Lake-Lehman runner in the top seven.
Lake-Lehman defeated Wyoming Valley West, 15-42, and Tunkhannock, 16-43.
Tunkhannock edged Wyoming Valley West, 26-29.
Crestwood, Dallas and Holy Redeemer were the other WVC teams to start 2-0.
Weston Medvetz was first in 18:23 when host Crestwood had the top three, five of the top six and seven of the top nine in home wins of 15-48 over Hazleton Area and 15-50 over MMI Prep.
Nash Greene and Jack Scanlan were second and third.
MMI’s top runner was Woobie Kupsky in fourth.
James Modrovsky and Ryan Kozich were fifth and sixth for Crestwood before Hazleton Area’s lead runner, Nick Hebel, took seventh.
Holy Redeemer defeated host Hanover Area, 15-48, and Nanticoke, 15-50.
Dallas defeated host Wyoming Area, 18-43, and Wyoming Seminary, 20-43.
Wyoming Seminary’s Jack Noeveli finished first.
Bryce Phillips and Ben Bradley were second and third for Dallas.
Wyoming Area’s top runner, Patrick Branley, was fourth.
Preston Klem won to lead Pittston Area to an 11-26 win over Wilkes-Barre Area.
North Pocono and Abington Heights each went 3-0 in a Lackawanna League cluster meet at Valley View.
Aiden Horne from North Pocono led the way by winning in 16:46.
The Trojans and Comets each defeated Montrose, Elk Lake and Blue Ridge.
Montrose’s Nate Sinkovich was second.
Abington Heights, the top team in the Century Dental Associates Cross Country Power Rankings of District 2 teams then had the next four finishers. Sean Rooney was third, followed by Tommy Walsh, Nicholas Booth, Gavin Ross and Noah Haines.
Valley View went 2-1 with Montrose preventing it from sweeping.
Scranton Prep was the only 3-0 team in the meet at Western Wayne.
Holy Cross and Lakeland each went 2-1.
Lakeland’s Scott Bevilacqua was first, followed by Scranton Prep’s Gordon Kopa and Graham Oven in second and third.
Lackawanna Trail’s Brayden Clarke was fourth.
