CROSS COUNTRY ROUNDUP: Hockenbury, Hedglin, Jones post top-five finishes at invitational

Lake-Lehman’s Nick Hockenbury, Dallas freshman Madison Hedglin and Elk Lake’s Krista Jones all finished in the top five in large invitational cross country races Saturday.

Hockenbury was second and Jones fifth in the Blue Races at the PennTrackXC 12.2 Invitational at Kutztown University.

Hedglin was third in the 42^nd annual Centaur Invitational at DeSales University.

There were Blue and Gold races at Kutztown, with a group of District 2 teams entered in the Blue races.

James Corbett from Holy Ghost Prep was the only runner in the field of 190 to finish ahead of Hockenbury, posting a 13.3-second win in 16:59.4.

Honesdale had Aidan LaTourette finish eighth and freshman Luke Murray 29^th for the best finish by a District 2 boys team.

Montgomery won the title over Mendham, 104-155.

Honesdale beat out Lake-Lehman for seventh, 224-248. Casey Weaver finished 23^rd for Lake-Lehman.

Scranton Prep was 11^th with 289. Colin Comerford finished 50^th and four other Cavaliers placed in the top 73.

Justice Johnson was 52^nd, but Elk Lake did not enter a full team.

Holy Cross was 22^nd out of 25 teams.

Hatboro-Horsham freshman Lillian DiCola won in 19:28.6.

Jones was one of six total runners out of 135 entries to break 20 minutes.

Scranton Prep’s Jenna Hillebrand followed in seventh.

Downingtown East won the team title over Montgomery, 79-93.

Scranton Prep was fourth out of 19 with 177 points. Honesdale was sixth with 198, Lake-Lehman 12^th with 318, Holy Cross 13^th with 323 and Elk Lake 14^th with 323.

Nine other District 2 girls joined Jones and Hillebrand in the top 50.

Honesdale’s Brennan Dahlgren was 12^th, Holy Cross’ Kaitlyn Farrell was 15^th, Scranton Prep’s Carly Schofield was 25^th; Lake-Lehman freshmen Alana Palmaioli and Kendall Borgers took 30^th and 34^th; Scranton Prep’s Anna Kosierowski was 36^th; Honesdale’s Kira Fox was 37^th; Scranton Prep’s Riley Matasavage was 41^st and Honesdale’s Megan Kretschmer was 45^th.

Dallas fared well at DeSales, placing fourth out of 20 girls teams and seventh out of 31 in the boys meet.

Hedglin was third out of 159 in the race won by state champion Olivia Haas from Blue Mountain.

Bryce Phillips led the boys, placing 25^th of 220.

The Northwestern Lehigh boys and Southern Lehigh girls won the team championships.
