Workhorse running back Isaiah Cobb ran for three second-half touchdowns Friday night to rally Wyoming Valley West past visiting Abington Heights, 21-7, in a non-league game between District 2’s only two Class 5A football teams.
Cobb was responsible for all but 5 yards of the Wyoming Valley West attack, carrying 40 times for 210 yards.
Abington Heights, which has lost three straight since an opening win, led 7-0 at halftime. The Comets took the lead late in the second quarter on a 16-yard pass from P.T. Cutrufello to Nico Bossi.
Cobb ran 14 yards for the tying touchdown in the middle of the third quarter, put the Spartans ahead with a 4-yard run on the first play of the fourth and added insurance on a late 21-yarder.
With 143 carries already, Cobb has been the busiest runner in District 2 in the first four weeks of the season. He has produced at least 100 yards and a touchdown on the ground in each game while racking up 740 yards and 10 scores.
Wyoming Valley West is 2-2 with its two losses coming by a total of four points, including an overtime game.
John McLaughlin and Josh Koval were each in on 10 tackles to lead a defense that did not allow Abington Heights to gain 100 yards either rushing or passing.
