North Pocono and Scranton Prep earned the right to represent the Lackawanna League in the District 2 Boys Team Golf Championships with playoff victories Wednesday.
North Pocono needed a par putt by Logan Rose from about eight feet in the final group on 18 to get past Abington Heights for the first time in three tries this season, 5-4, in Class 3A.
There was no such drama needed in Class 2A where defending state champion Scranton Prep had the 9-0 win over Montrose wrapped up before the midway point on the back nine at Elmhurst Country Club.
North Pocono improved to 10-4 going into Friday’s district championship match with Dallas.
Scranton Prep (15-0) moved into a match with Lake-Lehman.
FIELD HOCKEY
Lyla Rehill scored twice and Carly Saranchuk posted an eight-save shutout as Wyoming Area blanked Lackawanna Trail, 3-0, in Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 meeting of teams ranked among the best in the district.
Wyoming Seminary gave up a goal for the first time this season, but remained unbeaten and on top of WVC Division 1 with a 6-1 romp over Honesdale in another game between teams in the Golden Dome Abstract Super Six Field Hockey Power Rankings of District 2 teams.
In other WVC Division 1 games: Crestwood shut out Dallas, 3-0; Hazleton Area edged Delaware Valley, 1-0; Wyoming Valley West blanked Holy Redeemer, 4-0; and Lake-Lehman topped Wilkes-Barre Area, 5-1.
Lake-Lehman’s Sophia Lenza had a hat trick.
BOYS SOCCER
North Pocono held Scranton Prep without a shot on goal while posting a 2-0 victory in a Lackawanna Division 1 game.
The Trojans broke through in the second half when Cayden Lougee assisted goals by Eliot Bowen and Corbin Lankford.
North Pocono led 20-0 in shots and 13-1 in corner kicks.
Andrew Ferguson made 18 saves for Scranton Prep in the loss.
In other Lackawanna Division 1 games: Abington Heights shut out Honesdale, 5-0; Valley View nipped Delaware Valley, 3-2; and Wallenpaupack defeated Scranton, 5-1.
Yoshi Matsui and Ryan Salony each scored twice for Abington Heights.
First-place Valley View needed a rally to get past defending champion Delaware Valley.
Gerald Welsted scored both goals as Blue Ridge won at Elk Lake, 2-1, to break a tie with the Warriors for the Lackawanna Division 3 lead.
The Raiders are responsible for both losses by the Warriors, who had won seven straight with six shutouts since losing the opener by the same score.
Blue Ridge improved to 6-1 in the division and 7-1 overall.
In other Lackawanna League Division 3 games: Old Forge shut out Montrose, 6-0, and Riverside defeated Mid Valley, 6-1.
Dino Domiano and Anthony Mucciolo scored twice each for Old Forge.
Ron Prislupski scored five goals and Andrew Smith added two as Holy Cross defeated Mountain View, 9-1, in Lackawanna Division 2.
In other Division 2 games: Dunmore shut out Gregory the Great, 1-0, in overtime, and Lakeland blanked Forest City, 4-0.
Wilkes-Barre Area and Wyoming Valley West remained scoreless through overtime in a WVC Division 1 game.
Tunkhannock shut out Western Wayne, 2-0, in non-league play.
GIRLS SOCCER
Alexis Atkins had a hat trick when Nanticoke shut out West Scranton, 10-0, in a non-league game.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Jazmyne Bates had 14 kills, 12 service points and seven digs as Delaware Valley swept Lake-Lehman in a WVC match.
The Lady Warriors remained unbeaten with the 25-9, 25-17, 25-9 romp over Lake-Lehman (5-4).
Emily Henn had 13 kills and 15 digs. Leah Weinreb had 16 points and 9 digs, Katherine Quinn 8 kills and Olivia Conza 29 assists in the win.
The other three WVC matches also ended in 3-0 sweeps: Crestwood over Wyoming Valley West, Nanticoke over Wyoming Area and Pittston Area over Tunkhannock.
Kate Spencer had 10 kills, 20 digs and 5 aces as Blue Ridge recovered from losing the first set to win three straight and defeat North Pocono in a Lackawanna Division 1-2 crossover.
The victory was the fifth straight for the Division 2-leading Lady Raiders, who won, 22-25, 25-23, 25-20.
Foxlynn King had a team-high 12 kills while Libby Zick had 30 assists for Blue Ridge (6-2).
North Pocono dropped to 6-3 and 7-5.
In other Lackawanna Division 1-2 crossovers: Dunmore edged Mountain View, 3-2; Abington Heights defeated Elk Lake, 3-1; Lackawanna Trail swept Montrose, 3-0; and Western Wayne swept Susquehanna, 3-0.
