A fairly light Saturday sports schedule could be in a battle with weather issues to even try to get in the 17 planned events across 5 sports.
At Susquehanna, an attempt is being made to beat the weather.
The Montrose at Susquehanna football game has been moved up from its original 1 p.m. start to 10 a.m. at Susquehanna’s William Emminger Memorial Field.
The game matches the only two high school football teams in Susquehanna County, but involves four of the county’s six schools because of Montrose’s co-sponsorship with Elk Lake and Susquehanna’s longer running co-sponsorship with Blue Ridge, which had attempted the sport on its own in the past.
There have been 50 past Susquehanna-Montrose football games with Susquehanna holding a 33-16-1 lead in the series.
That includes four games between 1919 and 1931.
In the modern era, since Montrose returned to varsity football in 1973, three years after Susquehanna, the series stands at 31-14-1.
Susquehanna leads 8-1 since the teams began playing for the Bluestone Trophy in 2012.
There are two other football games on the schedule.
All the teams scheduled to play today have been struggling.
Susquehanna is 1-1 in the division and 1-6 overall going into its Lackawanna Football Conference Division 4 game against Montrose (0-1, 0-6).
A tie will be broken at the bottom of the LFC Division 1 standings when Wallenpaupack (0-2, 2-5) plays at Abington Heights (0-2, 1-6) at 1 p.m.
Nanticoke (2-5) is at Holy Redeemer (1-6) in a Wyoming Valley Conference Class 3A Division game on the synthetic turf at King’s College’s McCarthy Stadium at 7 p.m.
Four of the top five teams in Lackawanna Division 2 girls soccer go against each other when Western Wayne (8-3, 8-4-1) plays at first-place Lakeland (11-1, 13-1) and Dunmore (8-4, 8-4-1) plays at Mountain View (8-3, 9-5).
Blue Ridge is entered in the Marathon (N.Y.) Cross Country Invitational.
There are also field hockey and boys soccer games scheduled.
