Abington Heights and Lakeland extended winning streaks to take over the top girls spots in the Riverfront United Super Six Soccer Power Rankings of District 2 teams.
The new rankings were released Sunday evening.
Abington Heights took over the Big School girls No. 1 by winning twice, including avenging its only loss and spoiling the last unbeaten girls record in District 2 by beating Delaware Valley, the team from which it claimed the top spot.
Lakeland is the new top-ranked girls team after winning four times to stretch its winning streak to 11 and improve the district’s best girls record to 14-1.
The Crestwood, Abington Heights, Holy Cross and Blue Ridge boys, as well as the Dallas and Wyoming Area girls, also moved up this week while the Hazleton Area boys and Berwick girls rejoined the rankings and the Nanticoke girls came in for the first time.
Abington Heights and Dallas each moved up one position in the Big School girls rankings and now occupy the top two positions.
The Comets are on four-game winning and nine-game unbeaten streaks after beating Delaware Valley, 2-1, and shutting out Scranton Prep, 4-0.
Dallas won twice to take sole possession of the lead in a tight, four-team Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 race.
Delaware Valley drops from first to third after two straight losses, falling 1-0 to Wallenpaupack after the first loss against Abington Heights.
Wilkes-Barre Area held on to fourth.
Berwick rejoined the rankings in fifth by beating two teams that were ranked last week.
Wyoming Valley West slipped from fifth to sixth and Crestwood fell from the rankings after being beaten by Berwick.
Lakeland outscored its four opponents during the week, 25-2, to move from second to first in the Small School girls rankings.
Wyoming Area won three times, including a 3-2 victory over former No. 1 Lake-Lehman, to jump from fourth to second.
Lake-Lehman, which recovered from its loss to Wyoming Area to beat Holy Redeemer, 3-2, slipped from first to third.
Holy Redeemer dropped from third to fourth.
Montrose won three straight and held on to fifth.
Nanticoke won three times to extend its streak to seven and take over sixth. The current streak also includes a victory over Holy Redeemer.
Western Wayne fell out of the rankings after losing two of its three games.
North Pocono and Valley View each won twice to remain 1-2 in Big School boys.
Crestwood and Abington Heights also won twice each while moving up one position to third and fourth.
Dallas slipped from third to fifth after a week in which the WVC Division 1 leaders tied Tunkhannock, 1-1, and lost to Hazleton Area, 2-1.
Hazleton Area rejoined the rankings in sixth, replacing Tunkhannock.
Wyoming Area won twice and held the Small School boys top spot.
Holy Cross and Blue Ridge, the other once-beaten Small School boys teams, move up one notch each to second and third.
Dunmore fell from second to fourth after a 4-2 loss to Lakeland.
Elk Lake and Hoy Redeemer remained in fifth and sixth.
