Football dominates the Friday sports schedule in District 2.
There are 25 games scheduled in 4 sports, with 16 of them night football games.
The schedule is highlighted by three games: Berwick at Dallas, Western Wayne at Valley View and Lackawanna Trail at Mid Valley.
Berwick (5-3) is at Dallas (5-2) for the lead of the Wyoming Valley Conference Class 4A Division.
The game also carries seeding implications for the eight-team District 2 Class 4A playoffs. Heading into this weekend, Valley View is first in the seeding race, followed by Dallas, North Pocono and Berwick. All four have clinched playoff berths and home fields are highly likely for the quarterfinals, but the top two will also be assured of another home game if they reach the semifinals.
Berwick has won four straight and Dallas three.
Western Wayne (2-1 in the division, 4-4 overall) is at Valley View (2-0, 8-0) in a game between two of the three teams that shared the Lackawanna Football Conference Division 2 title last season. The Wildcats have been slowed by some significant injury issues, but have a shot at tying for first again if they can repeat last year’s victory over the Cougars.
Lackawanna Trail (6-1) is at Mid Valley (6-2) in a non-league game between LFC teams. Lackawanna Trail has won five straight since losing to Lakeland, the team that ended Mid Valley’s six-game winning streak last week.
Lake-Lehman (10-1, 12-5) has already clinched at least a tie for first place in WVC Division 2 girls soccer and can take the title with a win or tie in today’s season finale at Hanover Area (1-7, 3-11-1).
Dallas (8-2-2, 9-3-2) is at Tunkhannock (6-5-1, 9-5-1) in a WVC Division 1 boys soccer game.
There are also field hockey games on the schedule.
