Valley View, Prep finish as No. 1s

Division rivals Valley View and Scranton Prep finished as the No. 1 teams in the Gaughan Auto Store Super Six Power Rankings, the weekly ratings of Lackawanna Football Conference and Wyoming Valley Conference teams by our partner website, NEPAFootball.com.

The final rankings were released after the final three teams had their seasons end in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state quarterfinals.

Both No. 1 teams were unbeaten until the regular-season finale when Scranton Prep defeated Valley View, 17-10, in the game that decided the Lackawanna Football Conference Division 2 title.

Scranton Prep and Old Forge, the top two teams among Small Schools, then carried their unbeaten records all the way to the state quarterfinals. Both won District 2 titles, Scranton Prep in Class 3A and Old Forge in A.

Valley View won District 2 in Class 4A and wound up leading the Big School rankings, which are for teams in Class 6A, 5A and 4A. The Cougars had their season end in a 35-25 loss to Bishop Shanahan in the state quarterfinals.

The final rankings were unchanged from the week before.

Valley View is followed by Lackawanna Football Conference Division 1 rivals Delaware Valley and North Pocono in the second and third spots. Delaware Valley won the division and the District 2 Class 6A title. North Pocono reached the District 2 Class 4A final.

Hazleton Area, Dallas and Berwick round out the Big School rankings. Hazleton Area won the Wyoming Valley Conference Class 6A/5A Division and reached the District 2 Class 6A final. Dallas won the WVC Class 4A Division where Berwick was second before both teams won a playoff game to reach the District 2 Class 4A semifinals.

Scranton Prep lost to Wyomissing, 35-14, in the state Class 3A quarterfinals.

Old Forge was eliminated with a 20-14, overtime loss to Canton in Class A in the same round.

Wyoming Area, Lakeland, Mid Valley and Lackawanna Trail complete the Small School rankings.

Wyoming Area won the WVC Class 3A Division and reached the District 2 Class 3A title.

Lakeland, which won LFC Division 3, and Mid Valley, which finished second in the division behind the Chiefs, each won one playoff game to make the District 2 Class 3A semifinals.

Lackawanna Trail won District 2 Class 2A.
