Berwick joins football rankings

The Gaughan Auto Store Super Six Power Rankings have a new team this week, adding traditional power Berwick, which has recovered from a down 1½ seasons of football to win four straight, including last week’s 34-7 romp over Pittston Area.

The Bulldogs move into the sixth spot among Big Schools in the weekly rankings, compiled by our partner site,, and comprised of teams from the Lackawanna Football Conference and Wyoming Valley Conference.

The other 11 spots remain the same as last week.

Berwick joins the rankings just in time to wind up in a game between ranked teams when it travels to face No. 5 Dallas, which has won three straight.

The Bulldogs were a combined 2-8 in 2020 and 2021 before beginning their winning streak.

The No. 5 and No. 6 teams also meet in the Small School rankings, which are for Class 3A, 2A and A teams.

No. 5 Lackawanna Trail is at No. 6 Mid Valley. Lackawanna Trail has won five straight while Mid Valley is trying to bounce back from having its six-game winning streak broken by No. 4 Lakeland, 34-14.

Valley View, in Big Schools, and Scranton Prep, in Small Schools, continue to lead the rankings with unbeaten records. They have one more game left before playing each other with the Lackawanna Football Conference Division 2 title on the line.

North Pocono, Delaware Valley and Hazleton Area follow Valley View in the Big School rankings.
