Berwick outlasts DV in five sets

Cece Isenberg had 25 kills and 16 digs Friday night when visiting Berwick outlasted defending champion Delaware Valley in five sets in a Wyoming Valley Conference girls volleyball showdown between teams with unbeaten overall records.

Delaware Valley has been ranked first and Berwick second all season in the Electric City Volleyball Academy Power Rankings of District 2 girls teams.

The Lady Warriors won Wyoming Valley Conference and District 2 Class 4A titles last season when Berwick placed second in the conference and won the District 2 Class 3A title.

Delaware Valley won the first set, 25-20.

Berwick battled through a 31-29 second-set victory to tie the match, then moved in front by taking the third, 25-19.

After the Lady Warriors won the fourth set, 25-16, the Lady Bulldogs won, 15-10.

Berwick’s Morgan Nevel had 41 assists, 20 digs, 3 kills and 2 blocks.

Camille Pinterich had 18 service points, 7 of them on aces, and 27 digs. Sarah Steeber added 17 points, 7 aces, 8 kills, 8 digs and 2 blocks.

The loss in the match between the last two WVC champions ended Delaware Valley’s conference winning streak at 27 matches since also losing to Berwick in 2020.

Emily Henn led Delaware Valley with 20 kills, 18 digs and 7 points.

Jazmyne Bates had 14 points, 12 kills and 6 digs. Leah Weinreb 15 points, 12 digs and 5 aces. Samantha Monroe had 11 points. Katherine Quinn had nine kills and eight points.
