EXETER – Michael Lugiano led the way Thursday as Lake-Lehman posted the match’s four lowest scores on the way to a 305-352 romp over Holy Redeemer in the Wyoming Valley Conference Class 2A golf playoff.
Lugiano shot an even-par, 71, leading three Black Knights who broke 80.
The win puts Lake-Lehman in Tuesday’s District 2 Class 2A Boys Team Golf Championship match against Scranton Prep. It is the third straight year that the teams will meet and second straight in which Lake-Lehman advanced after a perfect season in the WVC.
Scranton Prep, the 2020 Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state champion, has won the last six district titles. Lake-Lehman earned its district final shot that year after finishing second in the division, but beating first-place Holy Redeemer in the playoff.
Each of the last two seasons, Lake-Lehman has gone 12-0 in its WVC schedule, then won the playoff match to take the conference’s beat in the District 2 Class 2A championship match.
The Ropietski brothers, Eli and Cael, shot 76 and 77 in Thursday’s victory.
Charlie Weidner added an 81.
Holy Redeemer’s team score was made up of four players shooting between 86 and 89. Nate Coates led the way with the 86.
Lake-Lehman has been the No. 1 Small School team in the Riverfront Sports Super Six Golf Power Rankings of District 2 teams throughout the season.
