Black Knights shut out Chiefs

Nick Finarelli struck out 14 in 6 1/3 innings and Max Paczewski made a variety of contributions Thursday when top-seeded Lake-Lehman shut out visiting Lakeland, 6-0, in a District 2 Class 3A baseball semifinal.

Lake-Lehman (15-2) advances to host seventh-seeded Scranton Prep (6-11) in Tuesday’s 4:30 p.m. district final.

Paczewski needed just four pitches to get the last two outs of the combined two-hitter with Finarelli, who walked four and reached the pitch limit. Paczewski also went 2-for-3 with a double, two stolen bases and two runs scored.

Lake-Lehman doubled its lead by scoring three times in the bottom of the fifth.

Cole Morio added a single, two stolen bases and two RBI. Connor Morgan had a hit and RBI.

Logan Fuga and Tim McGrane had the hits for Lakeland.

Lake-Lehman is the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 champion. It faces a Scranton Prep team that started 1-10 but has won five of its last six, including beating two higher-seeded opponents in road playoff games.
