Mia Blume expanded her game this summer, adding a new perspective that she will take with her to Neumann University.
The NEPA Elite Rini 17U point guard committed to the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III program Thursday, one day before the start of official practice for her senior season at Dunmore High School.
Blume is a two-time, second-team Lackawanna League Division 3 all-star at Dunmore, showing off her accurate shooting while finishing third on the championship team in scoring and second in 3-pointers each of those two seasons.
During her most recent season with NEPA Elite, Blume played primarily at the point guard position for the first time.
“I definitely think it made my overall game better because I was able to see things from a different position,” Blume said. “I like being able to play that spot, too.”
The experience made Blume more versatile if Neumann should need her to spend some time at point guard, which is where its coaches first spotted her during the AAU season. Even if that does not become the case, Blume believes it benefitted her game.
“It sharpened all my skills that I didn’t use as much normally,” Blume said.
Blume, who plans to major in sports management, also visited Cabrini and Juniata before choosing Neumann.
“I felt like I fit in best there,” Blume said.
Neumann, located in Aston Township, near Philadelphia, is a member of the Atlantic East Conference, which includes Marywood University. It is off to a 2-3 start this season after going 3-3 in the COVID-shortened 2020-21 season.
