BOYS GOLF: Patriots edge Tigers

Freshman Patrick Ruane shot 5-over-par, 40 on the back nine at Shadowbrook Golf Resort Monday to lead Pittston Area past host Tunkhannock, 173-175, in the closest of four Wyoming Valley Conference Class 3A Division golf matches.

Matt Mesaris added a 42, Mark Korea a 45 and Ethan Owen 46 to complete the Pittston Area team score.

Tunkhannock had four players shoot between 42 and 45.

Dayton Kennedy led with a 42. Josh Brown and Chase Wenrich added 44s. Aidan Montross shot a 45.

In other matches: Crestwood handled Wyoming Valley West, 149-211; Dallas downed Wilkes-Barre Area, 158-188, and Hazleton Area defeated Wyoming Area, 155-179.

Crestwood had four players finish in the 30s while becoming the first District 2 team to reach 3-0 this season.

Derek Johnson shot a 1-under-par, 35 at Irem Temple to lead the way and the team was just 5-over total for its four-player score.

Owen Blazick shot 37, Tommy Biscotti 38 and Ray Joseph 39.

Luke Bowen’s 44 led the way for Wyoming Valley West.

Brad Kogler shot 2-over-par, 38 at Wilkes-Barre Golf Club to lead Dallas.

Rhys Bonvie, Charlie Letwinsky and Ryan Vallach each shot 40.

Brady Gerrity shot 41, Mike Hamel 43 and Jason Wychock 44 to lead the Wolfpack.

At 2-1, Dallas is the only team besides Crestwood above .500 in the division.

Hazleton Area’s win over Wyoming Area left both teams at 1-1.

In a non-league match, Berwick defeated Bloomsburg, 176-203.
