Berwick took advantage of two takeaways on the special teams to open an early two-touchdown lead on the way to a 28-14 victory over visiting North Pocono Nov. 4 in a District 2 Class 4A football semifinal.
North Pocono fumbled the opening kickoff and Matt Lonczynski ran 7 yards for a touchdown a minute into the game.
The Bulldogs held the Trojans and took over deep in their territory again after an errant punt snap.
Lonczynski threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Rowan Slabinski for a 14-0 lead.
That’s where the score stayed into the third quarter until Riley Moore returned an interception 51 yards for a North Pocono touchdown.
Lonczynski’s second touchdown pass created a 21-6 lead in the fourth quarter.
North Pocono answered with another touchdown before Bo Sheptock closed the scoring on a 1-yard run for Berwick.
The Bulldogs moved into Saturday’s district semifinal at top-seeded Crestwood.
