PECKVILLE – Delaware Valley’s C.J. Ross threw touchdown passes to three different receivers Wednesday night to lead the County to a 35-21 victory over the City in the 88th annual Scranton Lions Club Dream Game before a paid crowd of 7,469 at Valley View’s John Henzes/Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The game, presented by Northeast Rehab, features recent graduates from Lackawanna Football Conference teams.
Ross threw touchdown passes of 66 yards to Valley View’s Sean Mackinder and 34 yards to Old Forge’s Ethan Tallo in the second quarter. He finished 5-for-8 for 131 yards, including an 8-yard touchdown to Delaware Valley teammate Tim Kizis for a 21-point lead with 8:09 left.
Mackinder finished with 4 catches for 113 yards. Valley View teammate Dante Randle made seven tackles, assisted on two more and recovered a fumble to lead a defense heavily influenced by a group of Cougars playing on their home field.
Delaware Valley’s Joe Sciascia ran 2 yards for a touchdown to a 12-play, 80-yard, 6:38 drive on the game’s first possession. Devin Ayala from Mid Valley ran 3 yards for the other County score in the third quarter.
The City scored two of its three touchdowns through the air. The scores cut into a two-touchdown deficit in the second quarter and into three-touchdown deficits twice in the fourth quarter.
Will Soma from North Pocono threw 69 yards to Charlie Thompson from Scranton in the second quarter. Wallenpaupack players accounted for the team’s fourth-quarter scores, a 2-yard run by Shadrak Agyei and a 23-yard pass from Mabret Levant to T.J. Schmalzle.
The County was coached by Delaware Valley’s Keith Olsommer while the City was led by Lackawanna Trail’s Steve Jervis.
