Carbondale defeats Hanover Area as conversions decide outcome

Fourth-quarter, two-point conversion attempts decided the outcome Friday night when Hanover Area went to Carbondale for a non-league football game.

After being tied, the teams scored a minute apart midway through the fourth quarter.

Carbondale completed its two-point pass attempt and stopped Hanover Area’s to pull out a 14-12 win.

Jonathan Orta’s 200-yard rushing night offset the Hanover Area passing combination of Christian Torres to Sean Dooner, which connected for two fourth-quarter touchdowns.

Torres found Dooner for 33 yards and the tying score early in the fourth quarter.

Orta’s 7-yard run and the subsequent two-point conversion gave Carbondale an eight-point lead.

Torres hit Dooner with a 45-yard touchdown pass, but Carbondale stopped the two-point attempt and held on from there.

Darryl Bennett’s 1-yard touchdown run in the second quarter gave the Chargers a 6-0 halftime lead.

The result leaves both teams with 1-2 records.
