Chiefs bury Chargers in first half

Dominico Spataro threw five first-half touchdown passes, three of them to Lacota Dippre, Friday night as Lakeland routed visiting Carbondale, 52-7, in a non-league game between neighboring Lackawanna Football Conference teams.

Lakeland opened a 44-0 halftime lead by scoring three touchdowns in each of the first two quarters and adding a safety.

Spataro went 13-for-18 for 226 yards passing and also led the team in rushing by going 56 and 21 yards on his only carries.

Dippre caught 4 passes for 55 yards while Riley Rovinsky caught 4 for 82 yards and a touchdown. Jon Seamans caught Spataro’s other touchdown pass.

Freshman back-up quarterback David Naniewicz went 4-for-5 for 31 yards and a touchdown

Lakeland has scored 93 points and outscored its first two opponents by a total of 69 points. Both totals are the best in District 2.

The Chiefs are the No. 1 Small School team in the Gaughan Auto Store Super Six Power Rankings, as determined by our partner website, NEPAFootball.com.

Friday night’s activities included honoring the unbeaten 1987 Lakeland team that posted a series of victories over larger schools the year before the introduction of state football championships by the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association.
