Champion Comets, Warriors climb

Abington Heights and Wyoming Area used championships to move up in the Riverfront Sports Super Six Baseball Power Rankings of District 2 teams.

The latest rankings were released early Monday morning as the last seven District 2 teams prepared to open play in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state tournament later in the day.

Abington Heights won the District 2-4 Class 5A Subregional title. The Comets beat North Pocono, 9-1, in the final and traded places with the Trojans, moving up from third to second.

Wyoming Valley defeated Honesdale, 11-0, in five innings for the District 2 Class 4A title and climbed from fifth to fourth.

Dallas dropped a spot.

Unbeatens Hazleton Area and Riverside remained in the No. 1 spots.

Hazleton Area, the District 2-4 Class 6A Subregional champion, is first among Big Schools, which are rankings for Class 6A, 5A and 4A teams.

Wallenpaupack remained sixth among Big Schools.

Riverside is the top-ranked Small School after winning the District 2 Class 2A title.

Class 3A champion Lake-Lehman held on to second.

Lakeland, Western Wayne and Holy Redeemer stayed in the third, fourth and fifth spots.

Nanticoke is back in sixth after Scranton Prep lost in the Class 3A final and dropped out.
