Dallas and Abington Heights open Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association boys tennis state tournament Tuesday in a doubleheader at Birchwood Tennis & Fitness Center in Clarks Summit.
Both teams are unbeaten District 2 champions as well as champions of the two local conferences.
Wyoming Valley Conference champion Dallas (12-0) plays District 11 champion Allentown Central Catholic (12-7) in the 10:30 Class 2A opener. The Vikings won the District 11 tournament as the sixth seed, beating the third, second and first seeds in succession.
Lackawanna League champion Abington Heights (16-0) plays District 1 third-place finisher Unionville (18-2) at 12:30 p.m.
Today’s winners advance to the quarterfinals Friday at the Hershey Indoor Racquet Club. Semifinals and finals are scheduled for Saturday.
District 2 doubles play resumes Wednesday at 1 at Kirby Park in Wilkes-Barre.
Both Dallas and Abington Heights have two teams in the semifinals.
For Dallas, Kyle Chesman-Tucker Chesman will take on Scranton Prep’s Ethan Borick-Gianluca Argenio and Jason Joshi-Luce DeRome will face Valley View’s Luke Kotcho-Liam Harrison.
Abington Heights will send Sam Christman-Luke Morgan against North Pocono’s Patrick Cawley-Fred Kloss and Dominic Peters-Ryan Salony against Wilkes-Barre Area’s Michael Hamel-Stanley Shimko.
Both Tucker Chesman and Sam Christman won doubles title last year with different partners.
