The Dallas boys advanced to the state tournament with ease while the Scranton Prep boys and Elk Lake girls had impressive runs come to an end in four-stroke losses during District 2-4 Subregional golf playoffs Thursday at Eagles Mere Country Club.
Dallas routed Selinsgrove, 326-386, in Class 3A boys and will join the Scranton Prep girls as District 2’s representatives in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Team Golf Championships Oct. 25 at Heritage Hills Golf Resort in York.
District 4 did not have a qualifying team to challenge Scranton Prep in Class 3A girls.
Scranton Prep was unbeaten as defending state Class 2A boys champion until having its season ended by Lewisburg, 312-316.
Elk Lake had been to the state Class 2A tournament in the three previous seasons its girls program existed, but that streak ended in a 286-290 loss to Loyalsock Township.
The boys matches used the low four scores out of five players while the girls used three-player scores.
Logan Paczewski shot 1-over-par, 72 while Austin Finarelli and Kyle Langan shot 81 and 82 to also beat Selinsgrove’s best score. Max Steinruck and Rhys Bonvie each shot 89.
The day’s low score came from Lewisburg’s Max Kelly with a 71.
Both Lewisburg and Scranton Prep put three players in the 70s.
Michael Lynch led the Cavaliers with a 74 while Michael Sewack shot 77 and Thomas Lynch 78.
Elk Lake’s Chloe Sipe shot 79 for the best score of the girls match, but Loyalsock advanced by putting three players between 93 and 96.
Reese Warriner added a 96 for the Lady Warriors.
