Del Valley leads volleyball rankings

Delaware Valley leads the way in the first Riverfront Sports Boys Volleyball Super Six Power Rankings of District 2 teams.

The Warriors, who are off to a 4-0 start, won the Wyoming Valley Conference and District 2 Class 3A titles the last time the sport was conducted in the spring of 2019.

Holy Redeemer (7-0) is second. The Royals lost only to Delaware Valley in the WVC in 2019 and won the District 2-11 Class 2A Subregional title. They have swept every match in straight sets this season.

Comparative scores with the three common opponents show the top two teams being of very similar strength so far this season.

The teams can settle the top spot on the court. They are scheduled to meet Thursday at Delaware Valley.

Berwick is third, followed by District 2’s other unbeaten team, Lackawanna League leader Abington Heights.

The Bulldogs suffered their only loss against Holy Redeemer, producing at least 18 points in each set.

Abington Heights won this week’s first-place showdown with sixth-ranked Blue Ridge, the 2019 Lackawanna League champion. The Comets also beat the Raiders in the Class 2A Subregional in 2019 and went on to beat fifth-ranked Tunkhannock in the match to decide the tournament’s third state qualifier.

Tunkhannock’s only loss came in the opener against Delaware Valley when it was the only team to take a set from the Warriors so far this season.

The Riverfront Sports girls lacrosse rankings were released Wednesday. Initial rankings for other sports will be released daily, then each will be updated on a weekly basis.
