District 2 announced Friday morning that the first half of its girls tennis singles championships have been postponed from Saturday to Monday.
The completion of the tournament has been moved to Wednesday.
Kirby Park in Wilkes-Barre is the site for early rounds of the Class 2A tournament while the North Pocono Middle School is being used for Class 3A.
The potential of thunderstorms during the 9 a.m.-4 p.m. competition timeframe, along with the threat of high wind gusts led to the decision.
Monday’s action will continue through three rounds, the completion of the quarterfinals, and will determine the four semifinalists in each field.
Weather permitting, the semifinals and finals are scheduled for Wednesday at Kirby Park at 1 p.m.
