Dual-threat Walsh fueled streak

Time period: May 8-14

Game One: Walsh threw a five-inning, three-hit shutout with six strikeouts and no walks in a 10-0, Lackawanna League Division 1 victory at Valley View May 8. He was 1-for-2 with a walk and two RBIs.

Game Two: Walsh was 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs in a 9-2 Lackawanna Division 1 win over visiting Scranton May 9. He was hit by a pitch and scored twice.

Game Three: In a non-league Friday game at Old Forge, Walsh went 3-for-4 with a run scored during an 11-8 victory.

Game Four: Walsh tossed a second straight three-hit shutout in Saturday’s 7-0, non-league victory over Wyoming Valley West. He struck out two and walked nine. Walsh went 2-for-4.

Season batting: Following the 9-for-13 week, Walsh extended his hitting streak to eight games in which he has raised his season batting average 221 points to .388 Wednesday. In the first game since the time period of the award week, he was 2-for-4 in Wednesday’s 4-0 loss to Wallenpaupack, making him the only Cavalier with two hits. He has a double and home run while scoring nine runs and driving in nine.

Season pitching: Walsh is 5-0 with an 0.78 earned run average. He has struck out 47 while giving up 23 hits and 13 walks in 36 innings.

About Brian: The three-year starter is hitting .382 in 58 career games. Walsh had 12 extra-base hits and 21 RBIs while hitting .387 last season. On the mound, Walsh has 13 wins, a 2.14 ERA and 181 strikeouts in 147 innings.

About the Cavaliers: Scranton Prep overcame a rough start to win nine straight games before falling Wednesday, improving its overall record to 10-7. During the winning streak, Scranton Prep clinched a playoff berth and temporarily climbed all the way to the top of the race for the top seed in the District 2 Class 4A tournament. The Cavaliers are currently second in that race. Scranton Prep is 7-5 in Lackawanna Division 1 for third place out of eight teams.
