Elk Lake, Holy Cross move up

Elk Lake and Holy Cross, the top two seeds in the District 2 Class 2A tournament, are on the rise as the district playoffs get ready to start.

The Lady Warriors and Lady Crusaders each moved up one position to second and third among Small Schools behind only Lackawanna League Division 3 champion Mid Valley in the latest Riverfront Sports Super Six Softball Rankings of District 2 teams.

The rankings were released Sunday evening and include all action through Saturday, the final date on which games count toward district playoff seedings. The official seeds and pairings were announced by the district Sunday morning in advance of Monday’s start to the playoffs.

The Big School rankings remain unchanged while the Small Schools underwent multiple changes.

Pittston Area remains the number-one team among all Big Schools in the Power Rankings compiled by NEPASportsNation.com, but just third among the district teams that are part of the District 2-4 Class 5A Subregional, according to the power ratings mathematical formula used by District 2. The Lady Patriots are the only unbeaten team in the district and champions of Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1.

West Scranton, Abington Heights, North Pocono, Tunkhannock and Hazleton Area remain in the second through sixth positions.
