Defending champions West Scranton, Tunkhannock, Mid Valley and Elk Lake all earned top seeds for the District 2 softball playoffs, which open Monday.
The playoffs continue through the May 31 and June 1 championship games, which will be played on neutral sites, with many likely to wind up at local college fields. All quarterfinal and semifinal games are played on the home field of the higher-seeded team.
The official pairings were released by District 2, through its website, Sunday morning.
West Scranton is seeded first in the District 2-4 Class 5A Subregional. Tunkhannock, Mid Valley and Elk Lake are first in Class 3A, 2A and A, which are all District 2-only events.
Hazleton Area is the defending champion of the District 2-4 Class 6A Subregional where Williamsport, District 4’s only entry, is the top seed.
Old Forge is the defending camp in District 2 Class A. Lackawanna Trail is the top seed.
