Fox, Fine lead way as Nanticoke pounds rival Hanover Area, 36-12

Zach Fox and Alex Fine ran for touchdowns in each of the first two quarters Thursday night as Nanticoke defeated host Hanover Area, 36-12, in the San Souci Struggle, an annual rivalry game between in the neighboring Wyoming Valley Conference Class 3A Division rivals.

Fox finished with 197 yards rushing to lead the Trojans.

Fine ran 14 yards and Fox 11 for touchdowns 2½ minutes apart midway through the first quarter for a 14-0 lead. Fox added the two-point run after this touchdown.

They put scores together even faster in the second quarter.

Fine scored from the 10 and added the two-point conversion then Hanover Area could not handle the kickoff. Fox scored from the 33 on the first play.  

The scores, 12 second apart, gave Nanticoke a 28-0 lead with 6:32 left in the half.

Aidan Jaskulski ran 3 yards for a touchdown and added the two-pointer to make it 36-0 and put the last 11:26 into the Mercy Rule.

Jeremy Vega returned the ensuing kickoff 77 yards for the first Hanover Area touchdown and Aidan Shamanski added a later score on a 1-yard run.

Nanticoke improved to 4-6 after starting the season 0-4. The Trojans have won three out of the last four, losing only 12-7 to Honesdale, and scoring 132 points in those three wins.

Hanover Area finished its season 2-8.
