GIRLS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: DelBalso, Ashton lead Lady Royals

Jillian DelBalso scored 22 points and Mia Ashton added a double-double Monday night as Holy Redeemer remained unbeaten and alone in first place of Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 girls basketball with a 52-34 victory over visiting Wyoming Seminary.

Ashton scored 12 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

Lucie Racicky led the Lady Royals in rebounds with 15.

DelBalso hit a pair of 3-pointers in the first quarter when Holy Redeemer held Wyoming Seminary without a field goal while taking a 14-2 lead.

Wyoming Seminary closed the gap to 21-16 at halftime when Maddie Olshemski scored 7 of her team-high 11 points in the second quarter.

DelBalso scored 15 points in the second half as Holy Redeemer pulled away for good.

Clare Griffin added 10 points for the Blue Knights.

Wyoming Seminary’s Olshemski made all eight of her free throws. Holy Redeemer’s Ashton made all six of hers, all in the first half.

In other WVC Division 2 girls games Monday:

Lake-Lehman 58, MMI Prep

Lia Keefe led second-place Lake-Lehman to victory with 17 points.

Bria Kringe led MMI Prep with 11.

Wyoming Area 63, Hanover Area 18

Morgan Janeski scored 26 points, including 11 when visiting Wyoming Area was scoring the game’s first 25 points while holding Hanover Area scoreless until 1:15 remained in the first quarter.

Jocelyn Williams and Krea Bonita added six points each in the fast start.

Halle Kranson scored nine points and Anna Wisnewski pulled down eight rebounds for Wyoming Area, which moved into a third-place tie with idle Nanticoke.

Brenna Slusser led Hanover Area with eight points.
