GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY RECAP: Three teams produce 3-0 days

Crestwood and Holy Redeemer each remained unbeaten while Hazleton Area joined them in going 3-0 for the day during Wyoming Valley Conference girls cross country cluster meets Oct. 6.

Molly DeMarzo led a dominant effort by Crestwood, which swept the top three spots and took five of the first seven places during a six-team meet hosted by Lake-Lehman at Letterkenny Fields in Dallas.

Ella Novelli and Maggie Kozich followed DeMarzo to the finish line, all coming in 42 seconds ahead of the rest of the field. Ellie Kozich and Emily Leicht placed sixth and seventh.

Crestwood defeated Lake-Lehman (15-40), Wyoming Valley West (15-46) and Tunkhannock (15-50).

Hazleton Area’s Jillian Wolk and MMI Prep’s Mary Kate Kupsky finished fourth and fifth.

Lake-Lehman had Alana Palmaioli and Kendall Borgers place eighth and 10th.

Milana Daiute was ninth for Hazleton Area.

Jade McKenna led Wyoming Valley West, placing 11th.

Hazleton Area’s sweep included a 25-30 victory over Lake-Lehman in a matchup between teams that entered the day with just one loss.

Crestwood improved to 10-0, behind only Holy Redeemer, which is 13-0 after beating Dallas, 26-30, while easily adding its other two victories in a meet at Hanover Area.

Dallas, Hanover Area and Nanticoke each went 2-1 at the meet where Wyoming Seminary and Wyoming Area were 0-3.

Northwest got past Pittston Area in a tiebreaker in a meet hosted by Wilkes-Barre Area.

The tiebreaker allowed Northwest to join Berwick at 2-0 in the meet. Pittston Area went 1-2, Wilkes-Barre Area 0-2 and Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech 0-1.
