GOLF ROUNDUP: Comets win

James Flickinger and Luke Morgan swept three points in the final foursome Wednesday when Abington Heights went to Elmhurst Country Club and posted a 6½-2½ victory over North Pocono in a Lackawanna League Division 1 match and possible preview to an upcoming playoff.

The Comets (8-2 in division, 11-2 overall) and Trojans (6-4, 8-4) are likely to square off for the Lackawanna’s berth in the District 2 Class 3A Team Championship Match.

Billy Pabst helped North Pocono take a 2-1 lead in the first group, but Michael Marion, Flickinger and Morgan each won in singles and better ball as Abington Heights took 5½ of the remaining six points.

Pabst won 4 and 3 and teamed with Ryan Ruddy for a 4 and 3 victory better-ball victory. All the other matches were closer, but the Comets did not lose any.

Bryce Florey added a singles win while Quentin Birch split with North Pocono’s Alex Wilson in singles and teamed with Marion for the better-ball point.

Riverside closed out its Lackawanna Division 2 championship season with a 9-0 shutout of Carbondale.

Michael Maslanka had two birdies and no bogeys in a round of 2-under-par, 35 on the front nine at Panorama Golf Course.

Dunmore defeated Holy Cross, 7-2, in the other Division 2 match.

Kevin Walsh, Jeffrey Walsh, Colby Murray, Eric Slack and Evan McHale had the singles wins for Dunmore.

Wallenpaupack defeated Scranton, 6½-2½, in a non-league match.

GIRLS

Ciera Toomey shot a 38 at Elmhurst Country Club and Maddie Valvano added a 44 to lead Dunmore past Holy Cross, 133-146.

Tunkhannock picked up two wins in a tight tri-match, shooting 138 to beat Abington Heights by one stroke and Elk Lake by two.
