GOLF ROUNDUP: Three secure titles; three more clinch ties

Scranton Prep and Riverside clinched Lackawanna League division golf title repeats with victories Thursday.

Scranton Prep went to Elkview Country Club and came away with an 8-1 victory over Valley View to remain undefeated and secure the Division 1 championship.

Riverside defeated West Scranton, 6½-2½, at Pine Hills Country Club and locked up the Division 2 title.

Montrose won Lackawanna Division 4 without playing, taking that title again when Mountain View eliminated Blue Ridge from title contention by handing the Raiders a 6-3 loss.

Hazleton Area, Lake-Lehman and Lackawanna Trail all clinched at least first-place ties in their divisions.

Hazleton Area also remained unbeaten overall, completing a home-and-home sweep of second-place Crestwood, 155-169, to assure itself of no worse than a tie in Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2.

Another unbeaten who clinched at least a tie for first place is WVC Division 3 leader Lake-Lehman, which defeated Wyoming Seminary, 149-179.

Lackawanna Trail will finish no worse than tied for first in Lackawanna Division 3 after an 8-1 win over Lakeland.

Connor Matteo shot 1-under-par, 34 at Valley Country Club to lead Hazleton Area.

Jonathan Joseph added a 37, Jacob Palermo a 41 and Brian Billig a 43.

Crestwood was led by Owen Blazick’s 40 while Isaac Saullo shot 42, Derek Johnson 43 and Tommy Biscotti 44.

Michael Lugiano, Mike Sholtis and Cael Ropietski each shot even-par, 36 at Huntsville Golf Club to lead Lake-Lehman.

Wyoming Seminary’s Nick Werner was medalist with a 35.

Lackawanna Trail swept the first and third foursomes to win its match at Scott Greens.

Michael Bluhm and Brayden Jones led off the win. Adam Jones and Sabrina Rogalla finished it off. Gavin June also won both his singles and better-ball points.

In other Lackawanna matches: Wallenpaupack defeated Honesdale, 6-3, in Division 1; Dunmore downed Delaware Valley, 5½-3½ and Scranton beat Holy Cross, 6-3, in Division 2; Mid Valley defeated Old Forge, 8-1, in Division 3; and Forest City defeated Mountain View, 5½-3½ in Division 4.

Mid Valley kept alive slim title hopes with its win.

Dallas, which had already clinched WVC Division 1, added another victory, 150-180, over Tunkhannock at Shadowbrook Golf Resort.

Sean Connors shot 4-over, 39 at Fox Hills Country Club to lead Pittston Area past Wilkes-Barre Area, 170-179, in another WVC Division 1 match.

MMI Prep defeated Wyoming Area, 177-183, while Wyoming Area was downing Nanticoke, 183-194, in WVC Division 3.
