Key Contributors

Below the headlines there are many efforts that contribute to team success. NEPA Sports Nation takes a weekly look at some of those contributions. Here are the Key Contributors from the week of Jan. 3-9:

ANTHONY EVANITSKY, Wyoming Area wrestling

On a team with three veterans with nine combined district titles – not to mention a regional and state title – Evanitsky has quickly established his presence. The freshman used two first-period pins and a technical fall to dominate the 145-pound bracket as one of three individual champions who led the Warriors to the Wyoming Valley Conference Tournament team title.

SIERRA HARTMANN, Delaware Valley girls swimming

Hartmann showed her versatility to help Delaware Valley easily handle Valley View, 119-56, in a meeting of top Lackawanna League teams. She won the 100-yard butterfly and 100 backstroke while contributing legs to wins in the freestyle and medley relays.

CADIE LEWIS, Dunmore girls basketball

Dunmore essentially got 20 extra chances in its 62-26 rout of Riverside for first place in Lackawanna League Division 3 with 10 more offensive rebounds and 10 fewer turnovers. Lewis helped create six of them by making three steals and going inside with the bigger players to grab three rebounds. She also finished with seven points and five total rebounds.

LEXIA SCHECTERLY, Lake-Lehman wrestling

At a time when more girls wrestlers are getting their own teams and own events in which to compete, Schecterly is making an impact in boys wrestling. She reached the WVC Tournament final at 106 pounds with a semifinal pin, then took second-place, losing on a 5-3 decision to Wyoming Valley West’s Dorian Hoffman. Schecterly’s performance helped the Black Knights finish fourth out of 11 teams in the standings.
