Andrew Kettel is making the transition from high school to college basketball coach.
Just a month after ending his 16-year career as a high school coach, Kettel was named Friday as the new men’s coach at Keystone College.
Kettel resigned following his eighth District 2 championship in a 10-year run at Scranton Prep where his teams also produced three Lackawanna League Division 1 titles. He was 202-56 at Scranton Prep and 279-127, including six earlier seasons at Lackawanna Trail.
“My family and I are very excited about the opportunity to join Keystone College,” Kettel said, according to a story posted on the college’s athletic website. “I would like to thank president Mr. John Pullo, vice president Mr. Stu Renda and athletic director Mr. Scott Gower for putting their trust in me to lead the men’s basketball program.”
Gower and Kettel previously worked together when Gower served as athletic director at Scranton Prep prior to moving to Keystone.
Kettel has found success off the court as well as on. He brought national acclaim to northeast Pennsylvania for the Coaches vs. Cancer initiative he launched and guided, helping it raise more than $3 million for the American Cancer Society.
Keystone is coming off its first Colonial States Athletic Conference championship game appearance in a decade. Brad Cooper resigned following the season in which the Giants went 8-6 in the CSAC and 14-14 overall.
Kettel resigned from Scranton Prep March 30.
