Several players fresh off deep state tournament runs will be in action Monday night when the Lackawanna League conducts a senior all-star basketball doubleheader at Scranton High School.
This is the second straight year in which the all-star games have been combined into a doubleheader at Scranton.
Carrie Toomey, who led Dunmore to a state title in her first season as head coach, will coach the Red Team in the girls game against the Blue Team, coached by Todd Smith from state semifinalist Montrose. Dunmore and Montrose won the league’s Division 3 and 4 titles.
Two more coaches from state tournament teams – Mike Kurpis from Division 1 champion Valley View and John Duffy from Forest City – will lead the way in the boys game. Kurpis will coach the Red Team, which is made up of Division 1 and 2 players.
North Carolina commit Ciera Toomey, who had 14 points and 21 rebounds in the state final, was selected for the game, but will not play. Toomey rejoined the Dunmore lineup late in the season on the comeback trail from reconstructive knee surgery.
Cadie Lewis and Ana Pacewicz from state champion Dunmore will be part of the doubleheader along with players from four teams that were still active last week in the state semifinals.
Smith will coach Mia Snyder and Hayley Pompey from his Montrose team along with Gianna Cafarella and Rita Collins from Division 1 champion and state Class 4A semifinalist Scranton Prep.
Mountain View’s Taylor Neri is on the Red Team.
Division 3 champion Holy Cross was the league’s representative in the boys state semifinals.
Hayden Hosie, Gabe Gonzales and Logan Tierney from the Crusaders will be on the Blue Team.
The girls game is scheduled for 6 p.m. with the boys game to follow at approximately 7:30.
