Monday’s scheduled meeting between defending champion and highly regarded girls basketball teams at Scranton Prep and Lake-Lehman has been called off because of illness within the Lake-Lehman program.
Lake-Lehman, already operating with a small roster, has multiple players unavailable for the game, which was scheduled for Monday night. On Monday morning, the school switched from the usual junior varsity/varsity doubleheader to varsity only and moved the game up to an earlier starting time, but by Monday afternoon that was no longer feasible.
This was scheduled to be a big week for the Lake-Lehman girls, who won last season’s Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 title and split a pair of opening weekend games at the Hazleton Area Tip-Off Tournament.
Games at Jim Thorpe Wednesday and Dunmore Friday are now also in jeopardy.
Scranton Prep won Lackawanna League Division 1 last season and beat Lake-Lehman in the semifinals on the way to the District 2 Class 4A championship. The Classics (1-0) are ranked second, one spot in front of Lake-Lehman among Big Schools in the My City Mortgage Super Six Power Rankings of District 2 teams.
