MMI Prep earns first state baseball tournament victory

Marcus Danchision split pitching duties with Kevin McNulty and shared the offensive burden with multiple teammates Monday when MMI Prep posted the first Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state baseball tournament victory in school history with a 7-3 victory over Greenwood at Wenger Field in Fredericksburg.

Danchision pitched the first 3 2/3 inning, then McNulty went the remaining 3 1/3 innings of a combined six-hitter.

The Preppers had four players, including Danchision, produce two hits each while Colin Williams tripled, scored twice and drove in two runs.

MMI Prep never trailed. The District 2 champions followed up single runs in the top of the first and second with four in the fourth for a 6-0 lead.

Danchision allowed a run on three hits while walking two and striking out six.

Williams gave up two runs on three hits. He did not walk a batter while striking out three.

Danchison, Cory Nalasco, Carson Valkusky and Jacob Magula all had two hits. Nalasco doubled while the other three each had an RBI.

MMI Prep advances to Thursday’s state quarterfinal where it will face District 6 champion Juniata Valley, a 9-6 winner over Northern Bedford, at Newport High School at 3 p.m.
