MONDAY ROUNDUP: Key wins for DV volleyball, AH tennis teams

Emily Henn had 18 kills and 8 digs Monday as Delaware Valley remained unbeaten on the season with its fourth consecutive straight-sets victory, turning back visiting Tunkhannock in a Wyoming Valley Conference match.

The Lady Warriors had also beaten the Lady Tigers two days earlier in the championship match of the Steamtown Classic in Scranton.

Delaware Valley put together a dominant effort in its return to WVC play.

Jazmyne Bates had 19 service points and 6 kills.

Katherine Quinn contributed 14 points, Celina Koh 12 digs and Olivia Conza 24 assists.

The match featured two teams in the Electric City Volleyball Academy Elite Eight Power Rankings of District 2 teams.

Top-ranked Delaware Valley improved to 10-0 in the WVC and 12-0 overall. No. 7 Tunkhannock dropped to 5-5 and 6-5.

In other WVC matches: Nanticoke swept Hanover Area, 3-0; Wyoming Area swept Wilkes-Barre Area, 3-0; and Wyoming Valley West defeated MMI Prep, 3-1.

In Lackawanna League matches: Abington Heights defeated Mountain View, 3-1; Dunmore downed Susquehanna, 3-0; North Pocono swept Forest City, 3-0; and Western Wayne swept Montrose, 3-0.

Kaylee Gryboski had 23 kills, 6 blocks and 5 digs to lead Holy Redeemer past Panther Valley in four sets in a non-league match.

Evelyn Kilburn had 32 assists, 23 points, 10 digs and 4 aces in the 25-20, 18-25, 25-11, 25-9 victory.

GIRLS TENNIS

Abington Heights clinched no worse than a tie for first place in the Lackawanna League with a 5-0 victory over Mid Valley.

Bella Peters and Rina Hanumali won, 6-0, 6-0, at the first two singles spots.

Susan Arp had the other doubles wins while Hanna Adonizio-Paige Watt and Elina Joshi-Charlotte Haggerty won in doubles.

FIELD HOCKEY

All five Wyoming Valley Conference games ended in shutouts.

Abington Heights beat Nanticoke, 2-0, to tighten the second-place battle with the Trojanettes in Division 2.

The Division 1 results were: Crestwood over Delaware Valley, 4-0; Lake-Lehman over Dallas, 4-0; Wyoming Valley West over Hazleton Area, 5-0; and Wyoming Seminary over Holy Redeemer, 12-0.

GIRLS SOCCER

Caelan Gallagher scored twice as Dallas defeated defending Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state Class A champion Southern Columbia, 3-1, in a non-league game.

Morgan MacNeely also scored.

Delaware Valley preserved District 2’s only unbeaten overall record by defeating Scranton Prep, 3-1, in a Lackawanna Division 1 game.

Honesdale defeated Scranton, 3-1, in another Lackawanna Division 1 game and Montrose shut out West Scranton, 10-0, in a Lackawanna Division 2-3 game.

Wyoming Valley West shut out Hazleton Area, 8-0, in a WVC Division 1 game.

BOYS SOCCER

Lake-Lehman defeated Hanover Area, 7-1, and Wyoming Seminary shut out MMI Prep, 7-0, in WVC Division 2 games.

Crestwood’s defense limited Gregory the Great Academy to three shots and one corner kick in a 3-0, non-league victory.
