Mountaineers, Warriors, Trojans reach finals, climb in rankings

Dallas, Wyoming Area and North Pocono reached district or subregional baseball finals to move up in this week’s Riverfront Sports Super Six Baseball Power Rankings of District 2 teams.

The new rankings were released Sunday morning.

Dallas and Nanticoke moved up for the second straight week.

Hazleton Area and Riverside remain as the No. 1 teams.

Hazleton Area will play for the District 2-4 Class 6A Subregional title.

Dallas and Wyoming Area, which will meet for the District 2 Class 4A title, each moved up one spot and are now second and third.

North Pocono won the District 2 Class 5A title to reach the District 2-4 Subregional final. The Trojans jumped two spots to fourth.

Wallenpaupack, the team North Pocono beat in the semifinals after finishing a game behind in the Lackawanna League Division 2 race, dropped from second to fifth.

Pittston Area slipped one spot from fifth to sixth.

Riverside is again followed by Lake-Lehman and Scranton Prep, the two teams that will meet for the District 2 Class 3A title.

Nanticoke moved up from fifth to fourth, but was knocked out by Scranton Prep.

Old Forge dropped from fourth to fifth.

Lakeland replaces Lackawanna Trail in sixth after Holy Cross knocked out the Lions to reach the District 2 Class 2A final against Riverside.

Lakeland made it into the rankings by winning for the eighth time in nine games before falling to No. 2 Lake-Lehman, 4-3, in the district semifinals.
