Mia Snyder scored 23 points Wednesday night as Montrose handled host Riverside, 62-38, in a non-league girls basketball game and rematch of last season’s District 2 Class 3A semifinals.
Riverside won the playoff meeting on the way to its second straight district championship. There will not be a playoff meeting this year, however, as Montrose has moved down to Class 2A.
The two-time defending Lackawanna League Division 4 champion Lady Meteors return many more of the key pieces from that matchup 10 months ago and it showed.
Snyder and Aspen Smith each hit three 3-pointers.
They combined efforts to help put Montrose in control during the second quarter.
Smith, who finished with 14 points, hit all of her 3-pointers and Snyder added two during a 17-6 second quarter that put the Lady Meteors ahead 33-18 at halftime.
Hayley Pompey scored half of her 16 points in the third quarter when the lead grew again, reaching 51-30.
Lillie Pon was Riverside’s leading scorer with 18 points.
The win was the third straight to move Montrose above .500 at 3-2.
