Lake-Lehman rallied into a tie in the top of the seventh inning, only to have Oley Valley respond in the bottom of the inning Monday.
The Lynx combined two hits and an error into the game-winning run, ending the Black Knights’ season in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class 3A baseball state semifinals for the second straight season with a 2-1 victory at DeSales University.
Lake-Lehman also reached the semifinals in 2019. There were no spring high school sports in Pennsylvania in 2020 because of the pandemic.
The teams combined for just seven hits, only four going into the seventh inning.
Luke Spencer walked with two out in the top of the seventh.
Mike Sholtis ran for Spencer and scored from first on Nick Finarelli’s double to center field.
Oley Valley scored in the bottom of the seventh inning when a throw to the plate got away with the winning run originally holding at third on the second hit of the inning by the Lynx.
Max Paczewski’s single to start the game was the only other hit off Oley Valley pitcher Garet Blankenbiller.
Finarelli threw a five-hitter with 10 strikeouts and no walks for Lake-Lehman.
The Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 and District 2 Class 3A champion Black Knights finished 18-3 overall.
