PECKVILLE – Wednesday night’s Dream Game is not the first all-star game of the past two months for some of the key players in the 87th annual senior all-star football game.
A half-dozen of the game’s players also competed in the Pennsylvania State Football Coaches Association East-West doubleheader in May.
The County has four players from the East-West Small School game and one from the East-West Big School game.
Lakeland’s Cross Douglas and Mike Pidgeon, Riverside’s Johnny Gilchrist and Western Wayne’s Zane Janiszewski all played in the Small School game while Delaware Valley’s Aiden Oliver played in the Big School game.
Lackawanna Trail’s Ray Melnikoff is on the City team after playing in the Small School game.
Gilchrist, the County starter at quarterback, was 11-for-17 for 189 yards passing in the East’s 17-10 win in the Small School game. His 12-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter gave the team a 17-7 lead.
Janiszewski was credited with three tackles, Douglas with two and Pidgeon with one. Pidgeon also broke up three passes.
Oliver was 4-for-7 passing for 74 yards in the Large School game to help the East to a 38-13 victory.
Melnikoff, Janiszewski and Oliver also played in the Lackawanna vs. Luzerne All-Star Baseball game, along with County player Michael Rickert from Riverside.
Janiszewski had a double and stolen base, Rickert started at shortstop and had a hit and Oliver had a hit for the Lackawanna in a 4-2 loss.
