This time, Pittston Area finished what it started.
Drew DeLucca threw two touchdown passes and the Patriots limited visiting Wyoming Valley West to 111 yards total offense in a 22-0 shutout in the Friday night non-league football game between Wyoming Valley Conference teams.
The win was the first of the season for the Patriots, who had outscored opponents in the first half during the first two weeks, but had been outscored, 54-0, in the second half. Pittston Area was tied with unbeaten Hazleton Area late in the first half and up 12-0 at halftime at Williamsport before losing both.
Pittston Area combined the DeLucca-to-Kevin Lockett passing combination with the 1-2 backfield punch of Harry Pugliese and David Sudo to support the big defensive effort.
The Patriots scored two of their three touchdowns in the second half.
The scoring started when DeLucca found Lockett wide open headed toward the right flag for a 31-yard touchdown in the second quarter. DeLucca then passed to Sudo for the two-pointer and 8-0 halftime lead.
DeLucca later connected with Lockett for 37 yards on a tightly covered fly pattern down the left sideline when Lockett won the battle for the ball to make the catch.
DeLucca rolled right and hit Drew Menendez for a 7-yard touchdown and a 15-0, third-quarter lead.
Sudo then ran 2 yards for the last touchdown.
Wyoming Valley West fell to 0-3.
