The Lake-Lehman combination of Claire Dougherty and Chase Purdy led the way Sunday when the NEPA Elite Rini 17U girls basketball AAU team closed out The Hoop Group’s Southern Jam Fest in Hampton, Va. with a high-scoring victory.
Dougherty poured in 27 points and Purdy 26 when NEPA Elite routed the Delmarva DIVAs, 84-49, to finish 3-1 for the weekend playing in the 17U Division Pool CC, then the Gold Consolation bracket.
With Mia Blume running the fast-paced offense, NEPA Elite raced out to a 51-30 halftime lead.
Dougherty had 17 points in the first half while Purdy and Katherine Shepherd had 10 each.
Purdy then scored 16 points and Dougherty 10 in the second half.
Megan Desmet, who added eight points, and Purdy each hit a pair of 3-pointers.
Blume is from Dunmore, Shepherd from Western Wayne and Desmet from Wallenpaupack.
NEPA Elite allowed just six second-half field goals while continuing to build its lead.
The NEPA Elite Clark 17U girls fell to the DMV (Delaware-Maryland-Virginia) Lady Tigers, 65-58, despite a 20-point effort by Kylie Lavelle.
Lavelle made all six free throws, leading the team’s 13-for-14 effort from the line. She was 7-for-14 from the floor.
Ciera Toomey added 12 points, Kaeli Romanowski 10 and Maria Belardi 8.
Lavelle is from Riverside, Toomey Dunmore, Romanowski from Western Wayne and Belardi from Scranton Prep.
NEPA Elite went 2-2 while competing in the 17U Division Pool A and the Platinum Championship bracket.
Central PA Dynamite defeated the NEPA Elite (Sheehan) 16U team, 64-40.
NEPA Elite finished 1-3 playing in 16U Pool A and then a consolation game to finish.
Anna Williams from Tunkhannock led the way Sunday with 16 points, all of them coming in the first half.
Gianna Cafarella finished with nine points. Cadie Lewis added five points and a team-high four rebounds.
Cafarella is from Scranton Prep and Lewis from Dunmore.
The NEPA Elite Scoblick 15U team finished up a 2-2 weekend by pounding 1Life1Shot Basketball, 71-31, in a 15U Division Platinum Consolation game.
The team had played the rest of the weekend in Pool A.
The NEPA Elite Butler 15U team completed its games Saturday.
The NEPA Elite Coyle 17U boys were at Spooky Nook in Manheim for Zero Gravity’s Mid-Atlantic May Madness.
New Haven Heat-Roscoe defeated NEPA Elite, 69-65, leaving the Coyle team with a 2-2 mark for the weekend.
