Zach Perta scored 18 points Thursday night to lead the way as Holy Redeemer defeated visiting Scranton, 51-39, in a meeting of defending District 2 boys basketball champions.
Holy Redeemer improved to 3-0. The defending district Class 3A champions joined Valley View in reaching 3-0 Thursday to match Blue Ridge and Carbondale for the best records in the district in the first week of the season.
Scranton, which won the last two District 2-4 Class 6A Subregional champions, slipped to 1-1.
Perta got the Royals started by scoring 10 of the team’s points for a 12-8 lead after one quarter.
Holy Redeemer held Scranton to four points in the second quarter for a 20-13 halftime lead.
The Holy Redeemer offense took it from there.
Jacob Hunter scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half.
Hunter had eight points and Perta seven in the third quarter when the Royals doubled up the Knights while expanding their lead to 38-22.
Darryl Wright added 10 points in the win.
Jaheam Roberts led Scranton with 12 points.
Dillon Lazdowsky, who did the team’s only scoring in the second quarter, finished with nine.
