SUNDAY RECAP: Weidlich named game MVP

The hitting of Sage Weidlich and the pitching of Gianna Adams carried visiting Pittston Area to a 10-0 victory over rival Wyoming Area in a non-league softball game.

Weidlich was the Pittston Area selection and Anna Wisnewski was the Wyoming Area choice in the team Most Valuable Player awards presented at the game by Sabatini’s Restaurant.

Adams tossed a three-hit shutout with seven strikeouts while walking just one.

Weidlich got the scoring started with a third-inning home run, added a double and single and scored three times.

Kallie Booth and Ava Callahan each had two hits and two RBI. Tori Para doubled and singled. Bella Giardina, Skylar Borthwick and Bernadette Lieback also had two of Pittston Area’s 20 hits.

Wisnewski had the only Wyoming Area extra-base hit with a double and was the only Lady Warriors with two hits.

BASEBALL

Riverside remained unbeaten by beating its biggest rival, Old Forge, 9-6, in a Lackawanna League Division 3 game.

The Vikings built a 6-0 lead after 2 ½ innings, then watched it get trimmed to 6-4 going into a wild final inning in which the teams combined for five more runs.
